FOIPOP + Education Act + Regional Centres for Education governance

Nova Scotia's Regional Centres for Education (RCEs) and the Conseil scolaire acadien provincial are public bodies under FOIPOP. Student records are governed by the Education Act and Departmental policy.

Notification window

FOIPOP does not set a fixed clock, but the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner (OIPC NS) expects notification 'as soon as reasonably practicable' where a real risk of significant harm exists.

Unique gotchas

  • RCE boundaries don't align with municipal lines — confirm which RCE owns the affected school before notifying.
  • The Conseil scolaire acadien provincial (CSAP) operates province-wide and requires bilingual notifications.
